Glowflare Horror Film Festival Opens Submissions for event in May 2025

The Glowflare Horror Festival is thrilled to announce that submissions are now open for its inaugural horror festival, taking place on 17th & 18th May 2025, at Parkway Cinemas in Beverley, East Yorkshire. Filmmakers from around the world are invited to showcase their work, celebrating the diverse and spine-chilling world of horror cinema. Following the success of the Glowflare Short Film Festival, this expanded festival welcomes both local and international filmmakers to participate.

Film Categories for 2025

Glowflare Horror Festival embraces a broad spectrum of horror storytelling, welcoming submissions across multiple subgenres:

  • Animated Horror – Horror brought to life through 2D, stop-motion, and experimental.
  • Comedy Horror – Blending horror with humour for a thrilling yet entertaining experience.
  • Folk Horror – Exploring eerie folklore, supernatural rituals, and rural terror.
  • Found Footage Horror – Films that blur fiction and reality through first-person horror.
  • General Horror – Unique horror films that defy strict categorization.
  • Gore & Extreme Horror – Blood-soaked and boundary-pushing horror.
  • Monster Horror – Featuring creatures, cryptids, and supernatural beings.
  • Psychological Horror – Tension-driven horror exploring paranoia and mental descent.
  • Sci-Fi Horror – Fusions of horror with technology, space, or scientific experimentation.
  • Slasher Horror – Featuring relentless killers and creative kills.

Official Festival Awards

The Official Festival Awards celebrate excellence in filmmaking, recognising outstanding achievements in storytelling, performance, and technical craft. Honours for Best Overall Film include Best Feature Film and Best Short Film, while the Best Performances category highlights exceptional acting with awards for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

Technical and creative accomplishments are recognised with awards such as Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Score, Best Sound Design, Best Special Effects (Practical or CGI), and Best Makeup & Creature Design. Additionally, horror subgenres are given special recognition, including Best Supernatural Horror, Best Psychological Horror, Best Slasher Horror, and Best Creature Horror.

To honour filmmakers working within financial constraints, awards will be presented for Best Film Made for £50,000 or Less and Best Film Made for £1,000 or Less. The festival also embraces the spirit of horror with fun awards such as Best Spine-Chiller, Best Kill Scene, Best Upcoming Filmmaker, and Best Villain.

Beyond these categories, there may be additional awards, ensuring that a wide range of talent and creativity is recognised. The Audience Choice Awards will also allow festivalgoers to have their say, celebrating the films that resonate most with viewers.
